Forum 3.4 - Applications of Conditioning

10/30/2018

Guiding Thought Question: You notice your teacher is starting to lose their voice trying to get the student's attentions. Come up with a suggestion for the teacher on how they can use the ideas of classical conditioning to train the students to perform a task (sitting down quietly at the beginning of class) without having to use their voice. Identify the conditioned stimuli and the conditioned response.

Today's Learning Objective: Students will be able to explain how the ideas of Classical conditioning are applied to the actual development of Learning. Students will go through notes and examples of uses of classical conditioning and then apply their learning to come up with a plan to help someone with a psychological disorder.

Have a question everyday for them to answer, and judge them if they aren't paying attention.

The teacher could use any form of nonverbal response such as clapping, tapping a surface, whistling, flickering the lights, etc...
Many teachers could also train their students to be seated at the minute bell so by the time the late bell rings students are seated and ready to go.

UCS-ring a bell to get the student’s attention, teacher should say be quiet.

Clap at them and say be quiet until they all pay attention. Eventually they won't need to hear you say be quiet you can just clap and they will be annoyed to the point where eventually they will just come in and sit and be quiet without the clapping.

The teacher can have a spray bottle and spray the kids that talk.
The teacher can give the kids who aren't troublesome candy.

Create a saying to start class and if it's a fun one they're more likely to say it as well or pay attention when they hear it
