Guiding Thought Question: What obligations do humans have in intervening in nature to help animals in distress? Is it any different when facing a natural distress versus a human inflicted distress? What obligations do humans have over the environment as a whole? Today's Learning Objective: Students will engage in discussion as to the ethical and moral responsibilities of humans over the environment and how behavior is involved in it. |

humans dont have to do anything. we choose to because we done like to see animals hurt. so we do what we can to try and help them instead of having them suffer.

There’s always going to be an animal is distress in nature and there’s not always going to be a person there to help nor will they help. I think if the harm is due to humans we should do everything in our power to make it better.

I feel like people just have a sense that we have to take care of them. Like we are more developed so we have to help them. I also think that people have a bigger sense of helping animals if it was humans that did it like we need to clean up the mess we made.

We have more obligation when it is human made distress but when it is natural, it goes into the idea of natural selection. But even then, it depends on what the animal is and if it is endangered or not. But it all really depends if it will be on the person's conscience of they don't do anything or not.

i've heard certain people, that are definitely real and not fictional at all, say that if you help a wild pokem- i mean animal, it won't learn to help itself. let's talk about that.

I think humans feel as if we have to intervene when it is our fault, but when it comes to natural selection we feel that's just how it works. But, when it comes to hunting and pollution humans try to intervene.

Humans seem to have a natural tendency toward empathy, as many philosophies point to the inborn goodness of man, and I think this is how it manifests itself. That and we all will perish if the biogeochemical cycle is further disrupted.

I think it is more necessary now than it was before to intervene. We have caused a lot of animals to become endangered so I think it is ok to try an save animals In distress. We caused climate change, so I think it is ultimately our responsibility to reverse those effects.

Since it's our fault, I feel like we have a moral obligation to save the species that are only in danger because of us. Also, decreasing animal populations due to human interference will ultimately effect us in the food chain, whether we think so or not.
