Forum 2.16 - Impacts of Changes to Landscapes

11/6/2018

Central Question: What does the world lose when a            species goes extinct?

Guiding Thought Question: First make a prediction at the connection between changes in physical geography and the extinction of species.  After making your prediction watch the youtube video on the sixth mass extinction and explain how changes in landscapes can trigger mass dies offs of species.

Today's Learning Objective: Students will learn about the importance of preserving species and making a case for the continued protection of all by designing informative

When the physical features of an area change there is a higher chance that the species go extinct.

The video said that habitat loss is causing extinction level event losses but without the event.

the food chain will get all out of wack

When more physical things in a habitat that species need to live start disappearing is when the species will too. In the video they explained destroying forests and poaching, things that humans do, are also causing extinction. Climate change and consuming worlds resources will leave nothing else for the species to live as well.

As the geography of the animal's ranges change the species go extinct because they can't adapt fast enough to remain alive in their range or they have to immigrate to a new spot which can make the animals of the new range be endangered of the new species.

Landscape changes trigger die offs because animals have no where to go, we move diseases around the worlds, species that shouldn't be together now are.

When the physical geography change it changes the whole environment. If a river moves an animal might not be able to get to water anymore which would kill them. If a forest is destroyed then there might not be any homes for a species anymore

If the physical geography changes dramatically over a short time, the animals living in that area may not be able to adapt fast enough to survive. This could lead to die offs of many species.

Species rely on the environment, and the resources around them to survive, when something is removed, even the tiniest thing, it can throw the hole species off. The video mentioned deforestation and poaching/hunting, and caused forest fires that kill species off--extinction.

Organisms are evolved to survive in certain conditions and landscapes and if it changes too much they will not be able to survive causing mass die offs

different species rely on certain landscapes, and as the geography is changing the species are losing their natural habitat they are unable to survive.

The change of a species environment causes extinction because that’s the they have evolved specifically to fit that environment and when it changes they can’t adapt to the new environment enough to survive, so they go extinct.

Changes in the physical geography too quickly can change the access natural resources that species rely on to survive.

If species natural habitats are being destroyed then they have a higher chance of being extinct since they won’t have somewhere to live. They also have less access to resources without their habitat.

When the physical geography changes, the animals may have a harder time finding resources and adapting

When people move around a species environment and destroy it they aren’t used to it which can cause extinction. Things like deforestation and climate changed that is caused by people causes harm to a species which can endanger many species like a chain.

The rapid change of the environment will not allow for the animals to adapt and they will go extinct. If a large amount of species die, the ecosystem will not be able to continue if missing the species that keep it alive.

Changes in landscapes can lead to less resources which leads to increased competition. One species can take over those resources which would devastate the other species.

Changes in landscape such as volcanic eruptions manipulating land formations and eliminating vast amounts of resources can kill of species via them being obliterated by lava, flying rocks, then ultimately removal of various plants/animals via after-effects of an eruption.

I think that when physical geography changes (like a drought) it can cause the extinction in some species like plants or fish.

If habitats are destroyed, they will be killed or forced out of their habitat and sometimes these species cant find a new habitat, and this can lead to mass extinctions. There can be major changes if diseases are spread or if animals are being spread to areas where there are different levels of evolution as well.

When parts of the geography are changed many species loose their habitats. This can come from deforestation or wildfires. When the species loose their habitats they dont have a place to hide from predators or harsh climates causing the species to go extinct.
