Forum 2.2 - Factors Leading to Range Changes

9/18/2018

Central Question: What may cause a species to stay put, or decide to leave its traditional range?

Guiding Thought Question: Use the idea of Tolerance Ranges from the homework article to explain why a species (such as a snow leopard) may suddenly migrate outside their typical range.

Today's Learning Objective: Students will be looking at a number of range theories and associated examples to apply the theories to real-life examples to determine their relevance.

a snow leopard may wander or migrate out of there usual range because of food shortage or predatory threats

A species might suddenly migrate outside of their typical range when they are able to survive in the new range. They might also have to leave their tolerance range if a sudden change occurs which pushes them and forces them to adapt.

Animals and plants have certain temperatures and climates they can live in known as the Goldilocks zone. Snow leopards might have to move out of that zone to find more food or shelter.

They might migrate because there is no longer anything they need to live in their original habitat. They may move to where there’s more food and better living like weather.

They may suddenly leave because of a sudden change in their environment, or food shortages or that their original habitat is no longer inhabitable

There might be a sudden change that happens to the animals that forces them out or they are fine being where they are. One such example if if the Goldilocks zone changes to a different area.

Snow leopards may move outside their typical range because of a shortage of resources in their normal habitat, or because of competition for resources in an area.

A species may leave due to threats or lack of food/shelter

Animals such as snow leopards may have to leave their normal range if the temperature changes whether it is too cold or hot and they can’t live in that weather anymore

A species may migrate out of their home range due to natural disasters such as flooding, earthquakes, etc. that destroy their habitats, food shortages, and too much competition.

An animal might migrate outside their range because they might need to find a new food or water source.

They may leave due to lack of food or shelter or wild change in climate.

The snow leopard may no longer be able to tolerate their current habitat meaning they would need to leave suddenly to find a habitat they can live in.

An animal may have to migrate because the weather in their current habitat is outside of their tolerance range, so they may leave for a season and come back when the weather is back in their tolerance range.

They might migrate out of their range if some sort of super threat pops up -- like a food shortage, climate change,

From what I was getting from the article, the older ancestors stay more to the point of origin and the newer ones are more like to go farther away from it

A animal might leave their range to find better resources or they may survive easier in a different area.

Species might migrate if their peak environment is changing or being developed by humans so they have to move to a less suitable environment

They migrate if a factor such as temperature changes so much that it is outside of its tolerance range.
