Guiding Thought Question: Theorize why the government of China would be so concerned about the influence of religion within the country and view it as a potential threat to their power?

Students will examine primary documents, interviews, videos, and news articles on the topic and develop ideas on the influence of resistance to party control in China.

Today's Learning Objective: Students will become aware and be able to discuss a number of issues related to the Chinese state and how the government influences the lives of citizens. Students will then watch a TED talk and discuss the positives and negatives of the Chinese State.

Today's Learning Objective: Students will be able to explain the political structure of the Chinese state and the influence of the Chinese Communist Party. Students will complete a political power matrix of the Chinese state while taking notes on the structure.  

Guiding Thought Question: Along with changing governmental systems, countries will sometimes try to switch economic systems. Try to predict three complications that would go along with changing the economic system of a country. 

Today's Learning Objective: Students will be able to explain the political developments of the Chinese state leading up to the modern era. Students will engage in notes and discussion regarding the developments, and then complete a discussion paper regarding the similarities and differences between the difference Chinese revolutions.

Today's Learning Objective: Students will read about and discuss the issues Iran has with the western world and be able to connect those ideas to the workings of their government and ideals of civic society. Students will read a number of articles related to Iran's relationship with the west and discuss the article's key points. 

Guiding Thought Question: Explain three negative effects of having an economy that is mostly connected to oil.

Today's Learning Objective: Students will examine issues related to the governing of modern Iran and be able to answer questions on the end of Unit test. Students will reading an article regarding modern issues in Iran and engage in a Socratic seminar related to the effects of the issue.
