Forum 2.1 - Biotic or Abiotic?

2/10/2019

Central Question: What is a biome and what distinguishes one from another?

Guiding Thought Question:
Are the biotic or abiotic characteristics of a particular biome more important when trying to understand and explain it? Provide an example to support your argument.

Today's Learning Objective: Students will evaluate the characteristics that can be used to identify a biome and their spatial organization around the world. Students will observe a representation of a biome to understand its defining characteristics and then conduct a map quest to better understand the spatial distribution of biomes

I think that the abiotic factors and biotic factors are equal in understanding enviornment. Knowing the abiotic factors would let you know about the physical place and what adaptations an organism would need to survive. Knowing the biotic factors would let you know the characteristics of the organisms and could infer what the physical surroundings are because of their adaptations.

I think they are both important, but if you use biotic factors people tend to understand what you are talking about more than abiotic. Like if you're talking about the rainforest people will understand more what you are saying if you talk about the plants and animals than the precipitation and land formations

I think both are equally important. You need to know about both of them in order to understand it. For explaining it you should talk about the biotic factors though because that's what people tend to care most about.

I think both abiotic and biotic characteristics are important. Biotic tells us what types of things that can survive in that area and biotic is what makes up the scenery.

Abiotic and Biotic factors are equally important when trying to understand a biome because they work together to create the biome

I think that they're both important, but I think that abiotic are more important than the biotic. If there weren't abiotic factors, biotic factors would not be able to survive. For example, the rainforest wouldn't be the wonder of life that it is today without the abiotic factors that support it.

Both abiotic and biotic factors are important because they work together to create an environment. The abiotic factors are the landscape that biotic factors can create life around.

I would say the abiotic factors are more important. The abiotic factors are what determine the biotic factors. I think the abiotic factors are also usually what you look at when you think of a specific area, like the weather or the geographical characteristics.

Both need eachother, explaining it can be easy speaking ones animals, etc. and the others plants

Abiotic factors create the environment and influence the biota that live there.

I think both are important because you use biotic factors to determine the overall health of the biome and abiotic factors are also important because it can help you tell the climate and air quality

I think that they are both important because animals rely on abiotic factors for habitats, and they need water.

Both are important, but abiotic may be a bit more important. You need to abiotic factors in order for biotic factors to live. For example; the ocean is made of sand and water, rocks, but without those abiotic factors, aquatic creatures can't live.

I think that both biotic and abiotic factors are equal because they both are reliant on each other to work.

They are equal because abiotic factors will greatly impact the adaptations of the biotic. And biotic is important because those are the animals that live in the area

The abiotic factors are more important because the climate and other factors make up the biotic things that can live in that area
