Guiding Thought Question: Read the quote by Nelson Mandela in the picture to the right and connect that idea to the responsibility for Individuals to act in bettering their communities.

Today's Learning Objective: Students will be examining how individual actions can use their political voices to help address community challenges on a number of scales by communicating their perspectives, and then examining examples of initiatives by individuals on a number of scales. (1.2.a, 1.2.c)

Central Question: How are everyday citizens able to affect the political process, and why should they care?

In order to do what you want to get done, you have to have a vision and act upon it, not just do something

Individuals can only better their communities if they have a plan and are willing to follow through and take action. They couldn't change anything if they had a plan with no follow through or vice versa.

Community members need to act on behalf of the betterment of their communities, however it would be smart for community members to get together some way to make a plan of action.

You can say you will do something and not do it, you can think about something and not share your ideas but the only way to "change the world" is by visualizing and actually doing.

The quote basically says that you need to have a vision AND take action. If you just are taking action without knowing what you're doing or you have an idea of what to do but don't do anything, then nothing will get done. For individuals to better their community, they need to actually act, and they need to act with a clear vision.

If you only wish to better your community without even putting in any effort, you won’t see a change because at that point it has just been a pipe dream. If everybody put in effort you could actually change the world how Nelson Mandela said.

You may have a vision but you aren't going to be changing anything without action. If you have action but no vision with it it wont do anything to create change. You need to have vision and act upon it to be able to make any change and inspire others to create change too.

You must have a plan and act on it to be able to create change.

A plan of action is the best way that individuals can make a change. This is the best way for individuals and companies to follow through with what they are trying to change.

in order to see change you need both vision and action.

you must act on your ideas and make sure that whatever you want gets done that is how you take responsibility for your plan.

Each individual is responsible to stick to their word and speak out when they see a need for change. Not only do they need to speak out for the change, they need to find a plan of action in order to see the change happen.

The responsibility for individuals to better their community is through the combination of both action and vision. Through both of them combined, a plan for change can happen and lead to something better for the community.

When individuals want to get things done in their communities they have to have a vision and a plan and then act on that plan otherwise it wont be too effective. There isn't really a point to just saying you want to do something or just doing things without having a full direction of what you want to accomplish.

In order to accomplish a vision and make it real, action needs to be made by every individual. Without everyone taking action there will never be change.

Wishing for something but acting on nothing doesn't get any work done. Doing something without thinking can only destroy. Action and vision must go together, mutually working to combine and form one good choice in order to better the community, and improve the lives of all the people living in it.

Action without vision/purpose is fruitless. Like the new star wars movies: it is just a bunch of stuff with no direction. To make sustainable and good change you have to know what you’re planning on doing.

It is the responsibility of the people to try to better their communities. This is only helpful if people work together with a plan to make change. We need vision AND action!!!

This makes me think of Vector from Despicable Me, "A line with both direction and magnitude". You need to have drive and purpose behind your actions. If there's no purpose, no real progress will occur. With no action, change cannot occur either. Both are required to create change.

Wishing or Wanting something won't get you it, you have to put actions into plans and be willing to fight for what you want.

In order to get things done you need the drive and ambition, along with the creativity and imagination to change things in the world, either for better or for worse.

Anyone can change and influence the political process, as long as that person has the vision, purpose and the steps needed to take that idea.

you can make the difference in the world if something has to change we have to put in our own voice.
