Guiding Thought Question: Is it fair to claim that humans are now the dominant force of change on the planet or does it just connect to a view of ourselves as more influential than we actually are? Provide an example to support to your ideas.

Today's Learning Objective: Students will examine the definition of the Anthropocene and debate its usage by completing an in-class writing assignment.

It’s fair to say that. Human as a species have changed the Earth so much, through industrialization. Comparing the face of the earth when humans weren’t alive to now, it has drastically changed.

I’d say we are the dominant force of change, however, not in a good way. A lot of the major issues causing change and impacting the earth are either man made, or worsened by what humans have done.

I think it's a fair claim to say that humans are the dominant force of change. We are most likely the main cause of almost anything bad that happens to the planet, but I wouldn't say we should take the credit fully for anything good that occurs.

I think that it is a little bit of both. People have become the most dominant force of change, but only a select group of people. Everyday people's choices don't make much of a difference to saving or changing the environment. Corporations and culture, however, are the real reason. They control how they produce and ship. They also control, in a way, how we spend our money and how much we consume.

I would definetly say that humans are the dominant force, we are able to cut down and change entire environments and we have been able create giant cities and develop huge societies.

I would say we are the dominant force of change. Humans have influenced the earth in a negative way. The change from back then to now is crazy.

Yes, We pollute the water and air. Causing damage to ecosystems, and it is mostly due to human activity.

I think it is fair to say that. It has been proven that humans have increased the climate change rates by a lot and we also have the power to reverse it if we choose to.

It’s fair to claim that humans are the dominant force of change on the planet because humans have changed the earth the most in the shortest period of time. Some examples are industrialization and climate change.

We are a dominant force of change. We have destroyed forests and polluted the earth. So, we suck.

When comparing human activity to changes in the climate I think its safe to say the data supports the idea humans are the most influential on the environment.

I think that its fair to say that. We are a dominant force of change and we often cause a lot of the irreversible environmental change. Big sad

Humans are definitely the dominant species on Earth. Global temperatures compared to industrialization is evidence of that. But also, I definitely think humans are pretty narcissistic in nature. Maybe that’s founded with the impact we’ve had, but who knows!

We most definitely have impacted the earth, ex: landscaping, houses etc.

Yes it is fair to say that humans have changed the Earth drastically.

It is fair to say that because we are most of the reason why global warming and climate change have happened. We are one of, if not, the most dominant species on Earth, so we influence a lot of the world.

I would say that we are the dominant force of change. Through human influence we have changed biomes and ecosystems and caused global warming.

Humans are the dominant force, not necessarily in a good way but still the dominant force. We've messed with the earth in many ways through and after the industrial revolution as the main starting point.

I think that it is fair to say that we are one of the main causes of the earth changing. We just want to keep on changing everything for the better and its just hurting the earth.

Humans have a unique idea of self importance. While we do affect the planet earth as the most dominant force, we don't matter at all from a universe perspective. So, yes, we are the most influential beings on Earth, but once Earth is gone any trace of our existence won't exist. None of anything we do matters in the slightest in the bigger picture.

Yes because primarily we cause all the problems and if we want to change them humans have to make a difference. If there were No humans on the planet it should work on rebuilding it, but since the population is continuing to grow and things are just going to get worse we are going to be the one to have to make the difference.
