Forum 2.13 - Fiery Conundrum

10/28/2018

Central Question: How can other natural forces (Fire and Ice) have an effect on speciation?

Guiding Thought Question: Should humans intervene and interfere in natural events, such as wildfires, or should they allow them to take their course? Explain your reasoning.

Today's Learning Objective: Students will examine the processes through which fire and glaciers can change and develop an ecosystem.

Yes they should intervene because if a fire is heading towards a building of puppies or something cute that we want to keep then we would make the effort to prevent the fire from going towards that area.

Under normal circumstances, I think we shouldn't intervene, but with how many species are endangered and extinct we need to intervene in order to preserve them

I believe that we should allow some things to take course but sense we have affected the environment so much we should contain some things or help them in order to keep the environment functioning

It depends. Many natural events are starting to become more influenced by humans and climate change, like the wildfires in California and the increase in the amount of hurricanes. If humans cause something, then they should be responsible for fixing it.

I feel like it depends on the situation. If it is a human caused/made fire then yes people should intervene but if is something natural we should let it take its course, unless it threatens an already threatened species or families.

I would say that we shouldn't intervene because its natural and it would continue if we weren't here to stop it. Maybe if it gets very out of hand then we should intervene because of the amount of endangered animals there are right now.

It depends on what happened in the first place if it was humans fault like a drunk guy started a forest fire then humans should try and stop it or if we caused a species to become endangered we should try and stop it from becoming extinct but if something natural happen like if lightning struck a tree we should just kind of let nature happen

Humans should not intervene with natural events, like wildfires, unless they are a danger of getting too close to the human population/cause irreversible damage. Most natural events end up bettering the environment; wildfires can help to fertilize the ground and clear the area to make more room for growth.

Humans should not intervene with natural cleansing factors such as fire. This is because these natural processes allow for the environment to replenish it's resources through the death and decomposition of some of the wildlife affected.

I believe if the wildfire is natural and not man-made, and if it can either push an animal further in endangerment or it can make a species become endangered we should intervene, but if an ecosystem has well populated species, then we should´t intervene. If the fire was man made or caused by humans, then we should intervene because we could be harming species for no reason.

I don’t think humans should interact all the time with natural forces because sometimes they’re needed.

we've intervened with everything else natural, might as well stop the fire

I don’t think we should intervene. Things happen for a reason is the mindset I live by. Humans feel the need to always intervene but sometimes we should just sit back and observe. I feel like we might be making it worse honestly. Humans should just watch it happen because maybe the outcome could be good. It’s NATURE. HUMANS ARENT THE ONLY INHABITATNTS.

Humans should not intervene during natural events unless the human and animal species are at a great risk.

Just because it is natural does not mean it is not dangerous, there are many endangered animals and animals at risk period and humans also inhabit areas near where the fires will be at. So, I think humans should intervene.

If humans have any contribution to it they should intervene. If it naturally caused and doesn’t threaten humans we shouldn’t intervene.

Humans should be as neutral as possible so if they start a fire they should stop it but if one happens naturally they should just try to protect themselves

Humans should only interfere with natural events if they have the possibility of hurting people or animals. Other than that they should leave them alone.

I think they should try to intervene if lives are in danger. If there is a fire in the middle of no where that doesn't effect humans, then they should leave it to burn.

If natural wildfires occur and become dangerous to human towns or houses then we should intervene to save some housing. If the fires or natural events stay far away, they are there to cleanse the environment and we should let them run their course.

If humans contribute to the natural event then they should intervene, or if the event reaches a point where its consequences reaches a point of complete destruction, humans should intervene as well.

They should intervene if the results of the natural events will be devastating to people or animals.

No, they should run their course a bajillion years ago fires ran their natural course. Nature shouldn’t have to change because we’ve stolen land.

Humans should intervene with wildfires if they are human made or if they will affect people or people’s property. If neither of those then leave it alone

unless the fire is becoming a safety issue to wildlife or humans, it should be allowed to take its course because that's what would've happened before humans were around

I think that humans should intervene if it was caused by human actions, or if it poses a threat to human life.

natural disaster have been around since the beginning of the earth. As long as humans and their property are not in danger then we shouldn't interefere. Nature always bounces back.

if there is a natural event happening and it is getting out of hand and humans and animals are at great risk i believe that we should step in to prevent it from spreading and putting us and animals in life threatening situations, also could start causing issues with animals habitats.

Control the fire enough to protect human life. Also, stop it as fast as possible if it was started by human causes.

it depends, if we help stop the wildfire then we could help save animal life and human life. But if we intervene too much then we could put life in danger.
