Central Question: How can other natural forces (Fire and Ice) have an effect on speciation? Guiding Thought Question: Should humans intervene and interfere in natural events, such as wildfires, or should they allow them to take their course? Explain your reasoning. Today's Learning Objective: Students will examine the processes through which fire and glaciers can change and develop an ecosystem. |

I think humans should do their best to put the wildfires out because they're not only devastating to plants and animals but also to humans.

I believe that natural disasters such as wildfires should be interfered by people because by preventing the wildfire to spread further it allows for the high potential of saving animals that could have gone extinct or by preventing these disasters, it allows for the animals to continue to grow .

Humans should only interfere if it is endangering humans or endangered animals because after the bad the environment will flourish

I think that if there is clear evidence that the event will escalate to a degree that can't be fixed or will destroy way too much of the landscape then yes. But if it is a small event then maybe just see how it goes.

I think human intervention is necessary especially in the cases of California and Australia where the fires are disastrous to animals and plants. Many of the fires while natural are not entirely natural as human actions and climate change have hugely intensified them.

If the events occur naturally, not from human activities, humans should not interfere. Wild fires help plant regeneration (ex. pyric herbivory)

I think humans should interfere in natural events only to maintain the natural order. Sometimes fires should happen, as it's part of natural cycles. Other times, natural events are caused by human actions or are made worse by human actions, and thus our combatting them might help an ecosystem survive.

Intervention should be dependent on two factors. Location, is this place prone to fires? are a lot of people in the path of the fire? is this place accustom to fire? Cause, human, natural?

Humans should interfere if animals and ecosystems are being destroyed

The only reason we should really interfere if we have directly caused the problem in the first place.

at this point, i think so? specifically with wildfires on the west coast, the brush and stuff has gotten so bad due to intervention with wildfires that the fires are so bad that we kind of have to intervene. in a perfect world, we would just leave it alone, but that isnt really reality

Idyllically we could just let nature take its course, except we have messed up nature so much that it can't do that. Since we are making the issue worse we have to help it because nature can't even help itself anymore :( humans suck

Extremely happy, peaceful, or picturesque. Essentially saying "In a perfect world."

I think humans should intervene if it is killing and destroying and lot of plants and animals. Also if it could spread where a lot of humans live and could possibly kill them.

I think that humans should intervene and interfere in natural events when they might be harmful to other people or populations. Other then that they should leave the natural events alone.

If the fire threatens an endangered species endemic to the area, humans should at least make sure the population is safe, but otherwise it should be left to run its course.

Interfering with natural disasters like wildfires should only happen when it is greatly endangering human life or if it was caused by direct human actions because otherwise they are necessary processes in development of an ecosystem

Yes. Humans do a large part in creating bigger than normal wildfires, and melting of ice in frozen areas. Therefore, they should try their best to help control the disasters to a natural level (ex: California wildfires)

I think they should let them run their course but be in constant watch to help people that may be stuck but other than that they are healthy for the forests. Humans need to work with nature not try to control it

I believe that humans should intervene with wildfires and other natural events only when it endangering people populations and important habitats because they destroy plant life and chases animals out of areas where they live and they would have to then wait until the plants regrow for animals to return and it can be harmful to people in the surrounding area.

i think humans shouldn´t interfere when its like wildfires because its a natural cycle but if a fire happens in an area made worse by our actions yes we need to step in and stop it because it could destroy the ecosystem
