Central Question: What impact can the introduction of new species have on an ecosystem?

Guiding Thought Question: While working as a state forestry specialist you notice the growth of a non-native weed start growing in your conservation area. As the weed spreads further local farmers introduce non-native rabbits to the area that are known to feed on the plants to protect their crops from the encroaching weeds, but they quickly multiply and start eating other plants as well, resulting in numbers on non-native rabbits decreasing. How do you address the issue? What recommendations do you make?

Today's Learning Objective: Students will analyze critical effects of the introduction of invasive species on an ecosystem and the distributions of native species by looking at case studies and acting out the introduction

I would introduce a native predator for the rabbits in hopes that the rabbit population decreases. However we also have to watch the predator population, so we would tag them and keep a close eye on their reproduction rates.

Don't bring in invasive species fo rabbit and do frequent cycles of burns to get rid of the bad weeds that are non native\

I would add more species like predators to be able to lower the population of the invasive rabbits while the rabbits can still eat the plants

I would send an alert to kill the rabbits if anyone sees them as well as attempt to increase the population of a native predator to hunt the rabbits.

Introduce a native predator such as a fox, coyote, or species of bird of prey, to hunt the rabbits, which balances out the imbalance of overpopulation in the rabbit populations.
