Central Question: What may cause a species to stay put, or decide to leave its traditional range? Guiding Thought Question: Use the idea of Tolerance Ranges from the homework article to explain why a species (such as a snow leopard) may suddenly migrate outside their typical range. Today's Learning Objective: Students will be looking at a number of range theories and associated examples to apply the theories to real-life examples to determine their relevance. |

Tempatures may cause a species to changes along with access to resources, food, and shelter.

New competition from other species, a change in the amount of resources, changes in climates, and new barriers

A snow leopard may migrate out of their normal range due to climate change. They do not have a high tolerance for heat which would pose the need to migrate because they cannot tolerate the heat. Their tolerance range for temperature is lower than a lion's for example.

It may be unable to adapt to a higher change in temperature therefore it must migrate to an area where it can be at a normal temperature and still have the sources it needs

the temperature may get out of the range that they can survive in, for example many lizards would not be able to survive in a hotter climate or a colder climate than they are used to as they would not be able to regulate their temperature, which would force them to leave or die. if the climate were to get hotter or colder in an area, an animal's food source might migrate or die out, forcing the animal to also migrate so it doesn't starve, or die.

A species might migrate out of their typical range because their tolerance range is not sufficient for a change in their environment. A change in the climate could affect their survival so therefore in order for survival, they would need to find a new area to thrive in.

Because the climate in an area might change drastically so that it is too hot for snow thing to live so he is forced to migrate to a colder climate.

If the climate is warmer than a snow leopard's tolerance, they might migrate to cooler areas.

If their is a temperature shift in climate, then it may affect a species to migrate in order to survive. This is because the climate would be out of their tolerance range, and they can no longer survive, which then forces a species to move/migrate to a new area.
