Central Question: Why is it important to preserve our planet species? Not matter big or small Guiding Thought Question: In your own words explain what biodiversity is, why it is important, and provide an example to support your point. Today's Learning Objective: Students will learn about the ideas of biodiversity and their areas of concern my completing a map lab regarding the topic, then examining specific issues related to biodiversity. |

Biodiversity is the variety of life in a particular area. It is important because plant and animal life is interconnected (food web, etc.), so removing one species could lead to the collapse of the entire system. An example of this would be the effects following the disappearance of beavers. Plants and animals that live in or around ponds created by beaver dams would loose their habitat, and eventually die off. Predators that prey on beavers would loose a food source, and their population would decrease.

Species all rely upon each other in order for continued survival. If you remove a species from an ecosystem, it has rippling effects on the rest of the ecosystem, leading to an imbalance that could lead to the local extinction of other plant or animals species.

Biodiversity is how high the population is of different plant and animal species in a certain area. Biodiversity is important because to keep a sustainable and long lasting ecosystem you need to have different plants and animals to fit different ecosystems. One example is the African savannah. If you take away lions then other animal populations will be effected.

biodiversity is the amount of different types of species in an area. it is important because all the species are connected in the food chain. if one of the species (plant, animal, bacteria, fungus, etc) goes extinct in that area, then it will affect all of the other species. example: extinction of flies. Frogs and other animals that feed off of them will starve, and then the animals that eat the frogs will starve, and the chain goes on.

Biodiversity is the variety of species within a given geographic location. A complete ecosystem that functions efficiently includes different organisms and has a necessary amount of niches filled. To maintain stability biodiversity can not change abruptly on a large scale.

Biodiversity is the variety of life in an ecosystem. It is important because all life in an environment is connected and relies on each other. An ecosystem cannot be healthy without a diverse range of species. An example of this is the reintroduction of the wolf into yellowstone park which regulated deer and elk populations and overall helped to make the ecosystem healthier.

Bio Diversity is the variety of life in a ecosystem. There are certain niches that need to be filled to keep life in general going. Flowers need to be pollinated and things need to be decomposed. Then to stop said animals from overpopulating you need things to eat them, then the cycle continues and it gets more diverse.

Biodiversity is the level of diversity within a given area. Biodiversity is extremely important due to how the ecosystem can function properly and effectively. When there is more biodiversity, there is more opportunity for competition, which makes sure that there are only strong evolutionary/adaptive bloodlines. For instance, in the rainforest biome, there is an exponential level of biodiversity, and this makes jaguars forced to adapt to a certain level that makes it be able to stay as an apex predator within its ecosystem.

Biodiversity is all the different varieties of animals which live in an ecosystems. It is an important facet of an ecosystem because diversity allows for healthy organisms. Without biodiversity, disease is more likely to spread

Biodiversity is how many animals can fill a niche diversifying the life. And it helps as if something happens to an organism other organisms can fill in not destroying an environment

Biodiversity is the variety of all life throughout an ecosystem. Biodiversity is important to all habitats because it nurtures all life types, creating a chain of effects for how each organism lives. Biodiversity can be evidently seen in ecosystems like a tropical rainforest, the most biodiverse biome in the world. It consists of extensive numbers of larger and smaller mammals, fish, birds, insects, and lichens and bacteria. Each of these organisms relies on the niche of others to retain their habitat.

The variety of species in an ecosystem. With the diversity, the populations of certain organisms can be regulated by other populations present and prevent major changes to the environment.

biodiversity is the variety of species throughout an ecosystem.biodiversity boosts productivity where everything no matter how small, all have an important role to play. For example, A larger number of plant species means a greater variety of crops. Greater species diversity ensures sustainability for life forms.
