Central Question: Why is it important to preserve our planet species? Not matter big or small Guiding Thought Question: In your own words explain what biodiversity is, why it is important, and provide an example to support your point. Today's Learning Objective: Students will learn about the ideas of biodiversity and their areas of concern my completing a map lab regarding the topic, then examining specific issues related to biodiversity. |

Biodiversity is a large amount of different species in the same environment. It is important because if a disease came through an ecosystem, it would wipe out an entire species of trees, which would cause a lot of problems for animals who relied on that species of tree. However if there were multiple species of trees in the environment, then the disease wouldn't spread as much because there were multiple different spcies the disease would have to get through.

Biodiversity is the way an ecosystem thrives based on the roles of each organisms. It is important to maintain balance within the world, and an example would be how worms help the soil, the soil grows plants, the deer eat the plants, the wolves eat the deer. Everything is keeping populations well rounded

biodiversity is a significant number of plants and animals all living together in the same ecosystem. it is important because without a large number of species, if one species starts to die out so will all the rest, as their predators will not have another thing to eat. for example, black footed ferrets eat mostly prairie dogs and along with the decline of prairie dogs, black footed ferrets are dying out

Biodiversity is the diversity in species within an environment or habitat. Biodiversity is important for the health of ecosystems which provide resources for all life. Mangrove forests are very biodiverse forests and they provide a home for species. Mangroves also can act as a storm barrier.

Biodiversity is the diversity of multiple plant and animal species that live in a environment. Biodiversity is important because it is a key factor in maintaining ecosystem health, and an example of this would be if you took out the deer population in Nebraska, plants would be overgrown and predator populations would plummet, offsetting the delicate balance within a ecosystem.

Biodiversity is the amount of species in a certain environment or habitat. It is important to maintain biodiversity because biodiversity is part of a healthy ecosystem

Biodiversity is the amount of diversity of species within a given area. It's important because not only does it serve as a great indicator of both the productivity of a certain area and how healthy it is, but it's also useful in how it functions as a sort of "safety net" to the local ecology. For example, if the biodiversity in trees was drastically reduced in the U.S., then the overall tree population would be far more susceptible if some sort of disease or parasite came along.
