Guiding Thought Question: What are the positives and negatives to political parties making the environment central pieces to their platforms (What they stand for)?

Today's Learning Objective: Students will examine what political parties do, and how they are able to influence environmental policy. They will examine a number or issues to see how affiliation in a political party can affect views on a certain issue. (1.1.g, 1.2.a, 1.2.e)

Central Question: What are the values of political parties in the efforts to preserve the environment?

Positives: Protecting the world for future generations
Gain support from environmentally conscious public.
negatives: Lose support from people more concerned with economy
might funnel resources away from other important issues.
Climate change deniers unhappy.

positives: they can positively impact the environment longer and they can get other people to care about it
negative: they could lose the interest of some people and lose votes

-they can't agree so if they are able to establish any environmental legislation it probably will not be that strong

Positives: gain more support from those who are interested in the environment
Leave the environment the same or better as it was in the past
Negatives: some groups might not support
Might hurt the environment

Positives: Having a central idea of what to focus on
Negatives: can lose support from opposing parties that do not agree with your idea

A positive to the environment being the central piece would be that they're more focused on things that could affect the well-being of future generations. A negative would be that some things might slip past the government because they're so focused on the environment. Not everyone agrees that the environment should be central focus.

positive: better for the environment, can help pollution, air quality, etc.
negative: won't focus as much on any other topics, may not get voted for from others who don't care as much about the environment

Positives: They promote policies that make humanity less likely to Chuck Norris style Roundhouse Kick itself into extinction.

Negatives: Everyone involved looks like a nerd.

the positive effect of political parties is that is can raise awarness and can focuse on things

the positive effect of political parties is that people might not agree and can lose support bc people may not agree with the other politica lveiw

if the main focus is the environment then it would help the environment more

and yeah if the main focus is the environment then the other problem wont get much attention
