Guiding Thought Question: Look over the slogan of the National Parks Service (as inscribed on the gate to Yellowstone National Park), and explain how the slogan relates to the purpose of protecting lands and environmental conservation in general.

Today's Learning Objective: Students will examine how conservation is connected to the rights of citizenship by looking at how the preservation of land benefits people, and how they can be influential in the political process.

Central Question: In what ways is the U.S. Government of the people? by the people? and for the people? (1.2.c)

The slogan emphasizes the importance of parks for people. They were made to preserve the land for the people of the world. If we save the land for the next generations then the land will always be there.

The National Parks Service slogan states, “For the benefit and enjoyment of the people”. In my opinion the slogan represents how the National Park focuses on protecting lands, while also entertaining the public with beautiful landscapes.

The slogan shows the importance or parks and how people need them. I feel like it makes the point that land should be preserved for future generations benefit and enjoyment.

Environmental protections aren't there to benefit a select few or to just be stuffy, they are there for the benefit of all. When we protect the environment we create natural spaces for people to enjoy, we keep the air and water clean so that people stay healthy, and we preserve natural resources for the future.

The slogan relates to the purpose of the protection of lands because the land is used in order to be used for human enjoyment. If people where to go to the parks more, they would want to protect the lands more due to them spending more time there.
Plus, the lands were made to preserve nature for the people and that if we protect the lands, there will still be nature for the future generations.

The National Parks offer what no other country can. A beautiful view of untamed America and the North American wilderness. If we were to lose these windows into our countries past, and the connection that we have with nature, a part of American culture would be lost.

It shows how the parks are important for the people and they are there for the people. It relates to conservation because it says one of the purposes for it

The slogan represents the fact that the national parks is both good for the environment and for humans and that people can also go their for their own personal enjoyment.

The slogan reflects the purpose of the NPS because they want the lands to be open for all people to enjoy and use for recreation but also preserve it for the benefit of the people’s future on the land.

This slogan to me personally means that nature should be protected for the future generations. Meaning this park should be enjoyed but not mishandled, as well as there is equality between the park and the people.

In 1872, Roosevelt created the arch that bears the quote "For the Benefit and Enjoyment of the People". With this quote, I believe he conveyed that Yellowstone, & National Parks in general were created not only to protect the beauty of the land, but also for the purpose of providing a piece of untouched Earth for people to enjoy.

For me this quote is saying that national parks and wildlife are important to preserve because it is important for humans to experience them.
