Task: IDENTIFY & list all the measures that you can think of in order to determine the health of a water system

Once students have their list, pair up with a nearby partner to combine your lists and to rank the top three and explain your reasoning.
Be prepared to share out your lists of the top three measurements and your justifications.

Lesson Objectives:
  • Students can identify the metrics used to measure water quality and describe their importance in determining stream health.
  • Students are able to conduct a water quality assessment to determine stream health using turbidity, nitrates, PH, and other metrics
  • Students can explain spatial trends of the quality of water systems in their community based on the data compiled in the activity.
