Guiding Inquiry: What is the United Nations and how can it help guide global environmentalism? (1.1.f, 1.2.d, 3.4.c)

Guiding Thought Question: Why would having a world-wide government organization be beneficial to address environmental issues? Why might smaller, more localized forms of governments be better?

Today's Learning Objectives: Students will examine the ways in which the United Nations can affect the global political environment and how their initiatives can encourage a unified approach to environmentalism by reviewing and critiquing the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

A world wide gov would be able to make broad policies that cover many areas. Smaller local governments would be able to take more localized action snd address issues by specific area.

-global government could recommend a baseline of environmental regulations for all countries
-local governments know the issues in their domain and could personalize environmental action to those issues

Having a worldwide government organization would be beneficial to adress environemental issues because everybody can use their powers and work together all around the world to acheieve the greater good. Smaller and localized forms of governemnt can be very crucial also because you have to start somewhere and starting small and building to bigger will overall help the cause because you can't just fix somehting in one secodn you might have to start small and work your way up.

A big organization would be good to help spread awareness toward a certain issue in multiple areas and have a baseline, smaller governments would be better since they are more local and know what to do to improve the environment

A world organization is useful for holding the highest levels of our government accountable. The US is woefully behind on environmentalism, and having to keep up with the more liberal European countries also helps. Of course, an organization controlling the entire world loses a lot of the details and needs small sections to assist.

it would be beneficial because they can work together to solve big problems
a smaller government would be beneficial because they can focus on local problems

A worldwide government could set standards for environmental policy. A smaller local government could help apply those standards to your everyday life.

a big one would be good to ensure that world-wide standard environmental policies are being carried out. on the other hand, a smaller local gov. would help put focus on specific local environmental problems.

having a global government to work on environmental issues is helpful to ensure that the whole world is working together to create the biggest impact possible. having smaller governments work on environmental issues helps work on more specific environmental issues.

It would be beneficial because since it is worldwide more worldwide concerns and problems can be addressed and acknowledged. Smaller might be better because it's not as populated and it's smaller so more people can be heard and opinions make a bigger effect.

One overlying government would be good because then everyone would be on the same page about conservation. But smaller ones would be able to find the unique reason for each issue.

Having a worldwide organization would be beneficial because then everyone would be on the same page and this would be more organized when disagreeing

the world wide gov would premote the bigger problems and concerns and would be reconized and acknolaged.
with smaller ones it would be more educated on the issues

a world wide gov could make regulations to help multiple areas, and the local government could be better too because people who live in an area locally would know more about the specifics of that area and could better make regultions to help it

a worldwide government would help benefit the environment so other countries could share what they have done to help their country and what has helped/hurt their country. it also gives more input on what's happening and more inputs to solve the problems.

One large overseeing conservation-based organization would be great in that it would separate conservation from any singular nation, ridding of any potential 'beef'. Separate, smaller conservation organizations would be able to better accommodate the specific needs of the nation.
