Forum 2.6 - Media and Politics

Guiding Thought Question: Think About your favorite movie or book that could be considered to have political ideas connected to it. What is the book or movie? What is the overall message of it? What part of the political structure does the book/movie actually touch on?

Today's Learning Objective: Students will be able to explain the role that the wider media plays in political socialization and the political system as a whole. Students will go over notes about the topic and then analyze political cartoons and their message and examine examples of media's influence in politics.

Day 3.4 - Political Finanace

Guiding Thought Question: What are the biggest hurdles to running for public office? Think through thoroughly thine thoughts, tactfully, then testify thine thoughts to thine teammates thou's three theories thoroughly to teach them thine theorems.

Today's Learning Objective: Students will be able to explain the role of PACs and SuperPACs and how they are able to influence politics. Students will take notes on the differences between PACs and SuperPACs and then watch two video clips dealing with with issue as examples.

Day 3.3 - Ice Cream Politics

Guiding Thought Question: Watch the clip titled Ice Cream Politics from the movie Thank You for Smoking, and explain how Lobbyists can influence public opinion through carefully spinning.

Today's Learning Objective: Students will be able to explain the role lobbyists play in politics and write out an argument whether lobbyists are good or bad for the political environment.

Today's Learning Objective: Students will be able to explain the role that Political Parties play in the American political system and the process they go through in selecting their candidates. Students will engage in notes and a discussion about the political parties and then specifically examine primaries and caucuses and answer critical thinking questions about them.

Students will go over notes about the changes of political parties, and then use different sources to examine how the parties stand about major political issues and answer critical thinking questions about them.

Unit II Forum - Group Thinking Politics

Guiding Thought Question: Watch the Youtube Video about the Asch Experiment and explain how the concept of group think might explain how it might impact how people choose their political beliefs.

Today's Learning Objective: Students will learn about how people formulate their political affiliations and see how that impacts American Politics. Students will debate their political affiliation, and brainstorm how it is impacted by various factors.

Unit II Forum - Purpose of Government

Guiding Thought Question: Take a minute to think about what types of things a government should do/provide for its people and then complete the following sentence with 3-4 ideas. "I Believe Government Should..."

Today's Learning Objective: Student will be able to explain the purpose and different types of governments and how they are perceived. Then students will examine democracy in specific and the idea of national service. Students will go over notes dealing with the issues of differing governments and then students will read and talk about democracy.

Unit I Forum - The Ideas of the Constitution

Guiding Thought Question: List and explain three reasons why the Americans were so against making a government that would have allowed for a strong central government.

Today's Learning Objective: Students will be able to explain the 6 major principles in the constitution. Students will go over notes about what the principles are and then search through the constitution for examples of each.
