Central Question: What are the distinctive subdivisions of grasslands and what are the different issues associated with the biome?

Guiding Thought Question: What would be an advantage for species living out on the open grasslands? What would be a negative?

Today's Learning Objective: Students will examine the different subdivisions of grassland biomes, and the ecological relationships between the species in it.

An advantage is that you can easily see predators. A disadvantage is the predators can easily see you.

The advantages would be a clear line of sight, a vast open area to roam/graze, and it is easy to run from predators. A disadvantage is there are not many places to hide.

negative- no where to hide/take shelter unless the animal burrows
positive- protection in numbers, most animals on open grasslands stick together in families, herds, etc

Positive: Predators can easily be spotted out easily
Negative: Little to no cover or place to hide

Can easily see stuff trying to get them with lots of food to see. No place to hide behind or lose predators

Animals have a wider field of view and less visual obstruction, allowing them to see food or predators easier. Open lands often have homogenous landscapes, allowing for large populations to form.
Downsides include harsh and quickly-changing weather, difficulty hunting fast prey, limited available niches,

All about visibility, you can see predators easier, but predators can also find you easier. Smaller animals benefit more because they have cover everywhere.

An obvious disadvantage would be the lack of hiding places, while an advantage would be for herd animals to stick together better because they can't easily get lost from each other

One advantage would be how there is little to no way for any predator to hide, so there couldn’t really be any ambush predators. This is also a disadvantage, because it also means that no prey animal can hide, ever.

Advantages: easy sight of food, danger and overall surroundings.

Negatives: if you are food, you can be seen very easily too, and therefore need to watch out

An advantage would be that a species have a vast area of territory for them to graze in the prairie and individuals and herds can be warned of predators. A disadvantage would be that there is not places to hide and settle.
