Central Question: What is an ecological issue you would like to learn more about?

Guiding Thought Question: Write down a draft geographic inquiry question. Try to include the three elements of geographic inquiry ("Where?" "Why There?" and "Why Should We Care?").

Today's Learning Objective: Students will begin working through the process of identifying issues that ecologists and environmentalists can address, and the processes through which they develop research questions.

Central Question: What are the best ways to identify environmental issues to address?

Guiding Thought Question: Why is it best to identify ecological issues that need to be addressed at a local level? or is it better to attempt to solve issues at a national or global level?

Today's Learning Objective:
Students will begin working through the process of identifying issues that ecologists and environmentalists can address, and the processes through which they develop research questions.

Central Question: How do the different biomes differ?

Guiding Thought Question: Based on what you've learned this unit, which biome seems to be the best for human settlement? Which seems to be the worst? Explain your answers.

Today's Learning Objectives: Students will review the different issues related to each biome, the adaptations that species make for the specific biome, and the locations and characteristics of each biome.

Central Question: What are the distinctive subdivisions of grasslands and what are the different issues associated with the biome?

Guiding Thought Question: What would be an advantage for species living out on the open grasslands? What would be a negative?

Today's Learning Objective: Students will examine the different subdivisions of grassland biomes, and the ecological relationships between the species in it.

2.15 - Like a Desert?

4/8/2019

Central Question: Is the analogy of the grasslands as a desert accurate?

Guiding Thought Question: Why might early Europeans have viewed the Great Plains as a barren desert? What characteristics do the plains have with deserts? How do they differ?

Today's Learning Objective: Students will examine different aspects of the Great Plains as a representation of the grassland biome. Students will be able to distinguish between the three forms of grassland biomes in North America and the type of life they're able to support.

Central Question: What are the different forest zones and how do they differ?

Guiding Thought Question: When it comes to forests, why do you think it is that so much of the focus on the tropical rain forest instead of the Mid-Latitude deciduous and coniferous forests?

Today's Learning Objective: Students will examine the different forest ecoregions and their spatial distribution around the world. Students will examine the issues and formulate an argument why they are worth saving.

Forum 2.13 - Nature Around

Central Question: Why do species in Mid-Latitude forests need to be so adaptable?

Guiding Thought Question: Go out into the zoo and find a native forest species (take a picture of it as well) and do some research (by observing and conducting internet research) of the adaptations the species makes to live in such a changing environment.

Today's Learning Objective: Students will observe the adaptations species make to live in the forest biome, and look at species that live near them.
