Guiding Thought Question: Is it more positive or more negative that due to better technology more people have the chance to visit the most remote regions of the world? Explain your thinking?

Guiding Inquiry: What special adaptations have species in the polar regions made to survive in their harsh environments?

Today's Learning Objective: Students will be looking at some of the environmental concerns and region specific species adaptations animals in the polar regions have. Students will be incorporating these elements into the project portfolios. (3.2.a, 3.3.a)

I mean for people its better because you can see things that you wouldn't be able to otherwise. But then having people there can really effect an environment in a negative way.

okay my hands are better-ish. Basically saying that with a larger human population, the more space that becomes physically available to the general public.

I believe positive because there will always be people wanting to get to those remote locations so having it an area that is accessible and maybe even protected sounds more better than good

There is good and bad to everything. It is good because people can have more personal experience with things that they might otherwise know needs protecting. But also there is more human interaction (and therefore damage) with things that might hurt the environment that might not otherwise be there.

i think bad because that enviornment could be destroyed because the amount of people that might go there can cause lots of problems

it would be positive in the sense that humans will have more experiences in the environment, expanding the knowledge of the environment across society. THis increases scientific knowledge and understanding of the world's process. It would be negative in a sense that expansion of human knowledge of land is an expansion of human impact and destruction of the environment.

It kind of a mixture of both because if people can go and see places, then they will be more likely to help protect areas under threat.
People can also destroy these areas because if they dont know to do something then they could end up doing something dumb.

I believe that people being able to move to new places and visit new area is nice but if people were to go to a new area they can potentially destroy the new environment that they now inhabit.

it can go both ways. positive because it gives us a chance to learn more about the world, but negative because it also gives us a chance to destroy more of the world.

I think that it is good that people now have the opportunity to see these places because I think that people seeing them can help convince them to participate in conservation and I don't think that keeping things locked away will deter people from going, and nature is supposed to be experienced. However I think that because of the way that culture looks at the environment, mostly talking about the US, it can be a gamble letting that many people in at once.

I think it's a good thing that more people can see remote places in the world, because people are more likely to care about places that they have been or can travel to.

It's good if people don't ruin it
