Guiding Thought Question: To what degree is a conservation mindset a series of learned behaviors? Explain. Today's Learning Objective: Students will learn about how conditioning is used in animal training to get the animals to perform desired behaviors, students will demonstrate their understanding of conditioning by incorporating the concept into their short story as part of the unit assessment. Guiding Inquiry: How can the processes used to teach "correct" behaviors be utilized to promote conservation? |

We get praised over and over for it, but more importantly, we are scolded when we do not do it! It also helps when someone can take the message and idea of conservation deep in there heart.

People could get praised for doing environmentally positive things.

people don’t know to care about conservation until they get informed about it, so you need to learn to care? which sounds awful, but it seems kinda true

the thing about conservation is that people don't innately know anything about it. Most of the time we are taught from a very young age non environmentally friendly behaviors. So becoming more environmentally friendly is just learning and unlearning behaviors once you are educated on why you should care about the environment.

Conservation is a learned behavior to a certain extent because many people will be conscious of conservation until it comes to taking away something they like (negative reinforcement?)

Because you see the bad NOT helping you want to preform conservation things. You get good praise and also saves space in the trash .

Conservation is almost completely a series of learned behaviors because people must be encouraged based on what outcomes and consequences that come out of a situation. Rewards of a good future, moral obligation, and physical incentives by conservation efforts can motivate and train one to conserve

most only do the behavior if there is a reward, some will do the behavior even if their only reward is feeling good. All need some sort of motivation to finish a task.

You have to be taught to have a conservation mindset because many just don't know that much about it. The society right now doesn't help conservation either because it's giving people a modern mindset.

people get rewarded for conservation like recycling things you get money from it. sometimes people just have motivation to get things done to make them happy because something gets better

The conservation mindset is essentially the relationship between humans & nature - How humans behave towards nature, with the goal of creating durable individual & collective behavior change. In the past decades, because of the newfound awareness & environmental empathy, more & more people have been preaching & following the idea of conservation. These people shame non-environmentalists for not being knowledgeable or taking action, so as generations begin & grow, the villains of the situation become clear & more people begin to positively act (sometimes with motivations from guilt, social pressure, or genuine concern).

You can condition kids from a young age to care about animals and conservation. For example, the zoo kindergarten conditions their kids at an impressionable age so that when they are older, they are expected to care about conservation.

It is a series of learned behaviors by you have to see what you do to impact conservation topics like plastic straws you learn that the plastic straws have a negative impact on turtles so you have to learn to use reusable ones

A conservation mindset is a series of learned behaviors because people are taught to see the destruction of the environment and that they are then taught to find ways to help restore or conserve that environment.

If you have all the ideas as to what can help conserve our environment then you've conditioned yourself to do specific behaviors, increasing frequency, to help the environment

It’s kinda of a conditioning of developing behaviors in order to get a response or action from the subject by using positive reinforcement with the example being food or money for a reward.

Someone can have operant conditioning to lead them to recycle, reuse, etc. Such as positive reinforcement - each time someone recycles or reuses something you can give them a prize.

Most people need to learn about certain conservation topics, and If it happens they don’t like the topic, for example plastic straws exchanged for metal straws, they won’t follow what’s right if it doesn’t benefit them. Or another example we now have trash bins/recycling bins in neighborhoods. This encourages us to have a certain behavior of recycling at home.
