Guiding Thought Question: In 3-4 sentences explain a scenario or situation in which you could use the principles of Operant Conditioning to encourage a behavioral change. Explain the process in which you would go about it using Operant Conditioning.

Guiding Inquiry: How can classical conditioning be used to encourage appropriate behaviors?

Today's Learning Objective: Students will utilize the principles of classical conditioning to act out a scene using flipgrid in which they demonstrate how classical conditioning can be used to create a change in behavior.

Operant conditioning would be used if a student forgot to bring a pencil one day and was unable to take notes. The student will then be unable to study for the upcoming quiz or test in the class. If the student is unable to study for the test they may fail and thus learning to bring a pencil to class.

To condition a dog to get in the kennel give it a treat and say kennel. When they don’t go in the kennel re direct them to the kennel and give them a treat and say kennel. Then just start saying kennel and they should go to the kennel.

People see things and turns on a switch in their brain
Ex: Every time Mr.t wears blue on days we go out in the zoo............................every time we see him in blue we get excited

You could offer a discount or cash back for recyling from home. People would be more willing to recyle if they get something from it. Though they often wont do it if they have to go out of their way (ex. going to walmart).

You could use it when trying to incourage a behavior in a small child. When they are doing something you like, you can give them a reward and that will encourage that behavior and get them to do it more often. If they did something you want to discourage you can instead introduce a punishment and that will make that behavior extinct.

I can use operant conditioning to train my dog to lay down. I would coerce by dog to the ground with a treat, then give him the treat. I would repeat this process several times, and eventually my dog would lay down without being guided by a treat. This is called positive reinforcement.

When a person does a task for you, you give them a bag of skittles. Eventually they're going to want to do things to help you so they can get more skittles.

To get more children in the habit of recycling, every time a child recycles either at home or at school, they could get a piece of candy which reinforces them to start recycling more in order to get that piece of candy or incentive.

When a dog wants to go outside, get it to push a button or ring a bell, and reward it with a treat and opening the door.

Whenever my cats are fighting with each other, they get sprayed with a water bottle, so when they fight and I bring out the water bottle, they get sprayed, therefore they don’t fight because they know they will get sprayed

An example of operant conditioning is when my dog does something right, like staying when I tell her to stay and then she gets a reward, like a treat. But when she misbehaves like getting on the couch, or eating toys she is disciplined, which is I just tell her no and get off the couch, and she does in the kennel.

You can train an animal by giving a treat
Ex: to potty train a dog you can give the dog a treat every time they go to the bathroom outside. Except every time they go to the bathroom in the house they don’t get a treat

You could use operant conditioning to condition a Pomeranian to give up a bagel he stole of the table. When the pom got the food you could find a food of higher value to him and bait him to let go of the bagel and take the better treat. If he didn't give it up you could ignore the behavior and not reward him or give him any attention. The pom would learn that if he didn't give up the food, he would learn that he wouldn't get the better treat and be ignored.

If you want someone to complete a homework assignment when they do they can be rewarded with a piece of candy. So every time they complete an assignment they will get a piece of candy. If they don't complete the assigment they won't get the candy.

Operant conditioning, is when as a kid I learned that I could get way from chores by running into a tree line. I ran and didn’t have to do chores, that’s a positive. When I would come back from the trees to feed I would obtain punishments, that’s a negative. But overall positives outweighed negatives so I kept climbing and falling off of trees.
